By Pastor Stephen King
Our website has been silent for several years, which has been unfortunate for us. I enjoyed hearing from you, praying with you, and answering some of your e-mail messages. Thank you for your calls asking us to keep our site active. Your comments and feedback were positive and encouraging, and I apologize for taking so long to get things moving again.
When I started this project in 2001, I had no idea of the enormous amount of time and commitment I personally had to dedicate to publishing and maintaining a website. I didn't anticipate the enormous response and requests that would come from people around the world who would be interested in our church and its ministry. Although it took a lot of work, it was worth it. I want to thank you again for your patience, encouragement, and support along the way. I am still committed to continuing our mission to inform, inspire, and encourage our supporters and interested readers about the church and contemporary Christianity.
We have made some improvements and changes to our format but basically everything have remained the same. We had to remove our Guest Book because of "spamming," computer viruses, and other web maintenance and control problems. Trying to filter unwanted messages each week became a frustrating and almost impossible task. In the future we plan to add video streams and audio clips of sermons that I believe will inspire and encourage you. We will also feature articles written by some of our friends, pastors, community leaders, and others who have shown an interest in the future of the Church and its direction. I hope you will continue to e-mail your comments and feedback to me. I still want to hear from you.
Our focus is to stay on the cutting edge of ministry, missions, and evangelism. It is never my intention to offend anyone in the body of Christ; however, I can understand how some of my personal views and opinions on traditional church leadership may be perceived as offensive to some. Change is often difficult, particularly when a group resists anything new and different. Coming from a classical Pentecostal tradition, I know firsthand how hard it is for some to think "outside the box." I assure you that it is not the purpose of this website to be offensive; however, I hope to provoke you to think differently.
I am especially interested in offering some insight and assistance to small church leaders and pastors. There are more of us than them (i.e., mega-churches). According to a study conducted by The Barna Research Group in 2003 on church growth and attendance: . . . research found that the typical Protestant church has 89 adults in attendance during an average weekend. In total, 60% of Protestant churches have 100 or fewer adults on a typical weekend, while slightly less than 2% have 1000 or more adults. That is not to suggest that we don't want or expect our churches to grow. We are Kingdom builders, and we are all trying to advance the kingdom of God. In our Pastor's Corner, you will read articles written by small church leaders and pastors who God is using to make a difference in their communities. I know you will find what they have to say informative, instructional, and helpful to you and your ministry. If the church is going to reach the entire world for Christ and speak to new generation of believers, then it will need to see through new lenses. We need a vision, and without one, we will surely perish.
Finally, let me take this opportunity to invite you to share with us as we make preparations to host our "Eightieth Church Anniversary," September 16-18, 2005. For more information, click on to our "Events Page." In the meantime, continue visiting our site and tell others about us.
